My Little Boy

Everyday at daycare we get a summary of what the kids today. One day last week, we got the best one EVER.

"Today Big Man and his lady friends had a birthday party in the housekeeping area. They each had a piece of birthday cake, a cup of tea, and celebrated with their babies (dolls) on their laps."

hee hee. Lady friends. I love that. My DH said he agreed it was cute, until he got the baby doll part. Hee hee... i love that.

He is all boy (give him a toy and the first thing he will do is smash it to the ground), but man enough to play with the ladies and their dolls. I love my Big Man.

It's called PINK eye, People!

So my lovely daycare sent Big Man home with "pink eye" yesterday. And he couldn't come back without a doctor's note. I was sure he didn't have pink eye and when we saw him - with bright white (albeit gunky) eyes - I knew he didn't have pink eye. You see, they call it "pink eye" because when you have it there is discharge and your eyes are PINK. His were not at all.

Instead, like his sister before him, Big Man's nasal passages and tear ducts are closely related. So along with a runny nose, he sometimes gets runny gross eyes. His sister did it too. What he does have is a cold. And, as it turns out after a dr's visit, a double ear infection. Poor thing. He has been in a great mood - so hard to believe. And, ANNOYING considering the poor guy has ear tubes. This would be his third bout with ear infections since getting the tubes in October. My poor Big Man.

But -- ear infections are NOT contagious you crazy day care people!

We are keeping him home today while the antibiotics take hold and he is on the mend. But seriously, they are starting to make me crazy. I am all in favor of not spreading disease, but its driving me up a wall.

Rant mode = over

My Crazy Life

So 90% of the time, the whole family commutes together. We all drive in, they drop me off at the office, then they go to hubby's office, where all three kids also attend daycare/preschool. In the afternoon, I walk over to his office, pick up the kids, and go home.

In the summer I maybe take my own car once a week, because DH is playing softball when we need to get the kids. Well, yesterday was one of those days. I drive my own car in (kids waving and blowing kisses from their car as we drive side-by-side) and park at work. 5:00 comes, and I finish up my work. At about 5:25 I leave the office and head over to his office. By foot. In the 95-degree, 110% humidity. I am not happy in my black pin-stripe pantsuit. I get over there about 5:35, walk around gathering the kids supplies, and am surprised to see our stroller in the lobby. Usually DH leaves it in his office.

At that moment it hits me. The car is back at MY office. DAMN. It is now too late to walk back, get the car, drive back, park and get the kids out of daycare by 6pm. So..i fill the kids sippy cups with water, gather everyone up, and tell them "Yayy..time for an Adventure!" We all leave the building and start heading to my office (about 6-7 blocks away). One block into it (the girls are walking, big man is in the stroller), my middle daughter says "mommy, its too hot, pick me up!". I just say no..mommy can't carry both of them, so we can walk slow, but we have to walk. They were remarkably good about it. We did all walk over to my office, I rewarded them with cream shakes from the Starbucks in our lobby, which we drank in front of my office fountain. Then we made a stop at the "cookie store" (Harris Teeter - local grocery which provides free cookies at the door), and picked up some groceries. Made it home around 7pm.

Totally cracked DH up.

Kiss the Girls and Make them Cry

So it turns out my Big Man is a little Casanova. Yesterday when I was going to pick up Big Man, another mother said, it was so cute, he was kissing her daughter yesterday. I laughed and said, we should watch out, I had the same report from another mother last week! 9 months old and already a play-eh. LOL. If I were those little girls, I would watch my nose. When he "kisses" me he usually is trying to bite (gum) my nose off.

Can't really help the girls though, he is such a CUTIE!

My kids are going commando. Why am I the only one who finds it funny?

So...my 5 year old dresses herself. In the morning she gets up, goes potty, brushes her teeth and hair and dresses herself. She also helps my 2.5 year old get dressed. This morning I get an angry call from daycare, that my 5 year old doesn't have underwear on, and she has no extras in her cubby. This happened about 2 weeks ago as well. The first time I think I laughed. This time, they were pissed, and said she had to go home. I laughed and said I would bring her some underwear. Frankly, the whole time I am thinking that the chances that the 2.5 year old is also going commando are pretty high. But daycare is not amused. They say I can bring some underwear this time, but next time she has to go home. So..I bail out of work and hurry over there to take her to buy some underwear (there is a dept store about 5 blocks from daycare). When I get there, she has underwear on. They got it from my 2.5 year old's cubby, as well as underwear for the 2.5 year old, who (as I guessed) was also commando. I sat my 5 year old down and told her she had to wear underwear that it was important for health reasons. She said she just forgot (which I totally believe) and said she was sorry. I emphasized that she would need to remember in the future. I had a similar (with less fire and brimstone) talk with my 2.5 year old.

Then we get a note from the director of our daycare stating that if it happened again, the kids would be sent home and could not return until the next day.

I think that is nuts. I mean, what is the big deal. From now on we will check to see if they have underwear in the morning. But, as long as they get underwear, what is the point to send them home? To punish them? To punish me? Seems like overkill. While this has happened 2x in 2 weeks, it never happened before at school (she did the same thing to us on Sunday).

Am I missing something? What is the big deal, seriously. I asked if she was doing anything inappropriate (like playing with herself, or something) and they said no. So c'mon! Make her put on the underwear and get on with the day. Am I under-reacting?
