My little princess or a truck driver?

So my 3.5 year-old GIRL burps like a 8 year-old boy. Seriously. She burbs often and very loudly. She (almost) always says, "Excuse me", but also find it hysterically funny. We try to not react when she does it, except to remind her to say excuse me if she forgets. But she always has something to say about it. "Momma, did you hear me burp?" or "Wow..that was as loud as daddy". I have been trying to figure out what to do about it.

I finally said to her, "honey, girls don't really burp out loud like that - girls are more polite". I was torn when telling her this because I don't want her to think there are things boys can do (or get away with) that girls can't. On the other hand, I don't want her to keep burping like a drunken sailor.

Ideas?

too funny....it would be hard for me to do anything BUT laugh....which is probably a bad idea since it reinforces the action!

I am sure she will outgrow the novalty (sp?) of the situation soon!

Funny! When I was in high school, burping was all the rage. (silly, I know) I still burp loud to this day and it drives my husband crazy. Just remind her to say excuse me and once she gets a few nasty looks from teachers or friends, she'll get the point that girls aren't supposed to do that. ;) At least while she's doing it, she's being polite. ;)

Sorry, in my house I burp and my 8-year old says "excuse you mom". Not sure what I did to her.

Mine farts like a trucker. We just try to ignore her and her stench. I'm still hoping that one day, she will become a girly girl and not be so crass.

you DO want an answer right?

i agree its not fair to tell your girl child one thing and a boy another. just establish the rules of the house, and teach your husband the rule really quickly!

say something like...

in our house, children excuse themselves when they burp. if you can, cover your mouth with your hand so its not so loud as to disturb other people -some people find it gross. that's the polite thing for ALL of us to do.

and then practice what you preach.

I won a burping contest because I could burp my name.

Nice.

My kids will never know that though...

Until they get real old.

PS: Disney site is done, let me know if you need any help in planning your trip!

Don't worry about it! I have a 5 year old little girl called Chloe-Jade and she's been burping since she was about 3. I used to go mad when she did it thinking to myself "please let her be a girly girl". However, I soon realised the chloe is only like every other little girl. Believe me its normal - all of her friends do it too! I just laugh it off now and say something like "Well done" or "that was a big one sweetie". Its only natural and there only kids once!
