Bumbo Seat Usage for Dummies

They recalled the Bumbo seat. They recalled the bumbo seat mostly because kids were getting out of it and falling off counters and tables. What kind of morons put their kids in these seats on top of counters and tables. And, moreover, left them unattended when they did. The recall is here. Seriously. The Bumbo says right on it "Never use on a raised surface. Never use as a car seat or bath seat. Designed for floor level use only. Never leave your baby unattended as the seat is not designed to be totally restrictive and may not prevent release of your baby in the event of vigorous movement.” Its imprinted on the darn thing. And now they are recalling it because stupid-as# people put the Bumbo on a table and left their kid there to topple off. Do we really need to protect ourselves from this kind of idiocy?

Don't get me wrong, I have accidentally let more than one kid of mine fall to the floor from a high surface. And I have been VERY lucky that none of them have been hurt. But do I blame the table manufacturer for making a surface without rails that my child could fall off of?

This just burns me for some reason. I love the Bumbo. It is so adorable! My baby loved the bumbo before he entered the stage where he just wants to run around putting whatever he can find on the floor in his mouth. Hmmm..maybe we should recall my vacuum cleaner for failing to continuously pick up all those pieces from the floor (despite not being run)....

1) Wow... high five to you for admitting that you're children have fallen off of something... LOL Most people would be scared to death to say that... me, yup it's happened. With my daughter. She was 6 weeks old... Couldn't roll obviously... Was asleep on the couch, I got up and went the bathroom and bam... she worked her way off the couch in that period of time. I still to this day have no idea how it happened. My son hasn't done it yet...

2) The Bumbo is awesome...

3) Seriously... isn't our society just inherently ridiculous when they have to save us from ourselves?

Woah! I LOVE this post! COngrats to you for admitting you not perfect mom (I have had my kids fall off the bed already even though I knew not to leave them there!)..but as you said..we don't blame the bed or the bed manufacturer. I don't get why people can't use a bit of common sense now and then...honestly, who puts a bumbo on the counter? It is like having to put Caution: Hot on a coffee cup...uh, duh?! No crap it is hot! Yeah for you!

I read about the recall and was all "are you KIDDING me?!" Seriously. How stupid are people?

Thankfully, Morgan's never fallen off anything high. She took a slight tumble off the couch, but that was two weeks ago. Bravo to you for admitting your kid(s) fell. :)

This recall cements my thoughts that I hate stupid people :)

My friend has the Bumbo, she only used it like in the middle of a huge table. She never left her unattended. It was a great tool, until they learn to sit up on their own. My friend's baby, also, fell off the bed. My sister's baby (my nephew, Luis) fell off the bed and broke his little arm. It is possible, even for the most cautious parent to have their babies fall. I thought the Bumbo was awesome!

I was truly annoyed. The bumbo was the only thing that I thought "If I have another baby, I need to get one of those" And now it'll never happen. Because people are too stupid to be trusted to breathe sometimes

I had no idea!!

And yes, my oldest fell off the changing table while I was standing right there...

Heck, things happen even when you're attending them. I once set our oldest on the table. I turned to set the mail down and dropped a piece. She was curious and...I immediately went to catch her and was a quarter-second behind her...all the way to the floor.

Other than a bump on the head, and about 3 min of crying, she was fine. Of course, that was after we called 3XMom's OBGYN and the pediatrician...(she was our first after all...we didn't know didley at the time (we still don't))

Unfortunately we live in a world of quick law suits and stupid people. People should come with warning labels "I"m an idiot and have zero common sense"

Hey I came here from Shari's blog.
Can I just say first: Thank you. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who's child fell of the couch or bed. Actually mind is 2 now, he climbs on anything he can and yes, (gasp!) he falls. But the good news I have somehow managed to prevent concussions, lacerations and broken bones. And he learns his lesson too which is also a good thing.

I just can't believe that the recalled the bumbo. The BUMBO for crying out loud. What is this world coming to...

Thank you so much for saying exactly what I was thinking. I don't have a bumbo but I have a bebePod, which are extremely similar and are definitely the same concept. It's sad that apparently the morons who don't read still think they should be pitied when they do things the directions tell them not to!

in my opinion, a lot of suing, recalling, etc. are caused by stupidity. The people that sue for stupid reasons should have the self-respect to not let their stupidity public. It's like the parents on "Kid Nation" who are suing CBS for child neglect when THEY are the parents who signed their kids up in the first place...sorry to go on a rant. Great post and I agree with you about the Bumbo seat.

I totally agree. We LOVED the Bumbo. I mean - what more could the manufacturer do aside from putting a DETAILED WARNING LABEL ON THE PRODUCT??

At some point consumers have to be held responsible for their own actions.

Are they going to recall knives next?
