Old Fashioned Fun

For no explicable reason, last week I remembered the little clapping song "say say my playmate, come out and play with me, etc". I believe I played that for hours and hours and hours in my childhood. So, this weekend I taught it to the girls. They had never heard it, and loved it. They couldn't wait to get to school today to teach it to their friends. I am now trying to think of other games like that from when I was little. (anyone remember the game rattlesnake? you sing and sort of form a line and weave in and out?) What are other good ones I can pass on?

I did some research into this a while back. Think about jump rope games, they are rhyming, or the hand clap games. I have been puzzling over this, too. patty cake is getting a little old!

Cinderella, dressed in 'yella' went upstairs to kiss her fella, made a mistake and kissed a snake, how many doctors will it take 1,2,3,4,5, I'm alive (option is "6,7,8,9,10, I'm dead again" as to how morbid you think your kids can handle)... or you could say let's do it again.

Lou lou had a steamboat the steamboat had a bell, lou lou went to heaven, the steamboat went to hell-o operator, give me #9, (consider looking that one up, I couldn't find any endings like what we had, it had 'kick me in the behind' in it, and that's probably not something you want to pass on- hell-o operator might give people pause, too, although for most kids, its a real giggle to say 'forbidden' words in a safe way..
