Moms Have No Shame

So, I recently sent this picture to my friends and family for Halloween. One of them pointed out that she would never be so "brave" to send anyone a picture of herself as a superhero. It honestly didn't even occur to me to be embarrassed -- although upon thought, I certainly would NEVER have sent just a picture of me and dh like that. At least I don't think so. I think there is something about becoming a mom that takes away a whole level of inhibitions. There are certainly lots of things I do now that I would never have done before. For example, I routinely now will sing with the kids in the car regardless of who is watching from the road. Even at a stoplight, I just look right back at the person and keep on singing. I will also dance spontaneously with my kids pretty much anywhere - grocery store, walking down the street, mall, school, wherever. I think being with the kids lets you act like a kid yourself, and that's kind of liberating.

So there -- I posted this picture of me and my family as superheros for the whole Internet to see. Ha!

oh yeah, and GO SOX!

I LOVE IT!!! What a fun family memory too - your kids probably think you are a rock star for dressing up with them.

(I secretly wanted my 6 year old to be the pink super girl for halloween but I couldn't convince her. I love that costume!)

Am I alone in thinking the word "brave" comes off as rude??? LOL

I think that after giving birth....you are right- there are not many reservations or modesty left. A picture of a super hero...that's nothing when you are a mom ;) You rock for doing this and having something so fun and great for your whole family! I love singing in the car with my kids and dancing in the middle of the grocery store. It is the fun in life that makes the best memories. Have a great Halloween! It is soon here!

You know what's also fun? Singing in public or dancing in the middle of the grocery store in front of your seven-year old who is now old enought to be embarrassed to death!

It is funny how some things don't even register once you are a parent. Growing up, it was "death before I drive a minivan." Now, it's "I'm a dad, I do what I gotta do." This has included (but is not limited to): holding a child *closer* while they puke into my shirt pocket, getting up at 2AM to spray monster-repellant in the closet, letting my child(ren) do any number of tasks on their own (rather than picking them up/doing it for them/yelling "forget it!") to build their confidence or at least let them try something new, and *not* laughing at something the child views as completely serious (e.g., giving Mommy the "mad face" 'cause they're unhappy with her) but which is uttterly comical in practice. Oh, and I drive a minivan. /shrug. Next. :-)

Wow, what great costumes! You look great! I'm jealous because Halloween is just around the corner and I haven't made/bought the kids costumes, something they've been talking and dreaming about for a month. Gotta do that tomorrow!

I know what you mean about inhibitions being gone. I'm that way too.
