Lazy days of summer....maybe not!

With K in Kindergarten, we needed to figure out what to do with her all summer. You would think there would be some simple solution - but really, there isn't. We are lucky that our county offers a number of summer camps - but you have to sign up by the week. There is a basic camp offered right down the street. It is available most weeks - but not all. So you pretty much need a spreadsheet and matrix to figure out what to do. There are 11 weeks of summer (after school ends and before it starts again), and we are going on vacation for 2 weeks. That leaves 9 weeks.
Last week was the sign up day, and thank goodness, that part was not hard. They had suggested we have at least 2 choices for each week, in case certain ones were full. We got into all our first choices. The hardest part was figuring out what to sign her up for. She is going to the basic camp for 6 weeks, another "regular" camp for 1 week, a softball camp for 1 week (that should be interesting!) and a general sports camp for one week. I fear I will need a rigid list to remember where to drive her each week (and the different hours for each one). I can't imagine what it will be like when I have more than one kid in camp!

oh yeah, and by the way, you had to pay for all the summer camps NOW! At one time. nice.

You had to pay everything up front? Yikes! Thankfully we found a place to put Abby for the summer that is all summer - hopefully she likes it though!

wow. your kid is so lucky! we always just stayed at home maybe 4 times a summer we got to go to the pool. of course we had horses and a dog and cats running around and plenty of chores, gardening to help with, an endless supply of popsicles, and no air conditioner, so it was best to stay outside and try to catch a breeze.. ahh the days of summer!

i know what u mean about the spreadsheet! I have 3 Girls I'm trying to coordinate for summer camps. unfortunately not alot of options for the 3 and 4 yo but plenty for the 6yo. I'm gonna be a Mad woman driving from South Riding to Leesburg and Fairfax this Summer.

Oh yes, I know the feeling. My oldest son is finishing up 1st grade, and last summer was our first year of coordinating all the summer camps and such too. He went from basketball camp to summer school program, to 5 weeks of outdoor camp to a final week of Campfire USA camp. This year will be similar, except now we have Boy Scout camp thrown in the mix somewhere too, and a week vacation. Luckily we only have to put a $25 deposit down for each session of camp right now, and then pay the balance of each 2 weeks before they start.
